| For me the basics are:
1. You don't need a whole load of space. I've danced in some very small rooms. I bet Van Gogh would have still painted if one day he was only given a small bit of paper.
2. You don't need music. Silence is big.
3. You don't have to do all the rhythms. Try just doing body parts. Or one of the rhythms. Or playing with the transition between chaos and lyrical. Try lots of things. Be creative. Warm up for a few minutes and then listen to yourself for what you need. Gabrielle's book Sweat Your Prayers is a good source of inspiration. Tons of suggestions from the simple and practical to the outrageous and whacky.
4. Be your own teacher. Notice where you're really happening and appreciate yourself for it. Notice where you're stuck and create and exercise to work with that.
5. Walk on the wild sides.
